Exhibition full title

The Moss Vale Returned Serviceman’s League Sub-Branch, photographer Richard Batterley and Wingecarribee Shire Council have come together in a collaboration to stage “Moss Vale Pays Tribute”, an exhibition of images and memorabilia honouring the service and sacrifice of local men and women who have served in conflicts around the world.

The exhibition is in Atrium of the Moss Vale Civic Centre from 31 October 2023 until 1 December 2023. Opening hours will be 8.30 am - 4.30 pm Monday - Friday and 9.00 am - 12.00 pm on Saturdays. Importantly the exhibition will coincide with Remembrance Day on 11 November 2023.

The memorabilia exhibited will be a small selection from the impressive collection the Sub-Branch holds in its museum located at the Moss Vale Services Club.  It includes memorabilia from World War I and World War II, including post WW II uniforms displayed on mannequins.

The images are a collection of 25 of the folio of over 60 photographs of the 2023 Moss Vale ANZAC Day Parade and Service taken by local photographer Richard Batterley.  Richard won the 2010 Owen Nanelli Memorial Award for his collection “Berowra Remembers” for “An outstanding contribution to the education and promotion of Hornsby Shire’s heritage.”  He was also the principal photographer in the recent National Trust “No Time To Spare” photographic exhibition also held in the Moss Vale Civic Centre.  The full collections of photographs are being displayed as a rolling slide show on the large monitor in the Atrium throughout the exhibition.

Moss Vale RSL Sub Branch President, Bob McLaren says, “This is an important exhibition as it will draw community attention to the important work the sub-branch carries out in connecting veterans to important services, developing networks, enhancing support services and providing practical help where required. It will also provide an educational insight into the contribution the services have played in the development of the Australian community. By way of the exhibition, we hope to encourage people from the area to join the Moss Vale RSL Sub-Branch.  Membership of the Sub-Branch is open to anyone who has been in the services as well as a range of affiliate categories such as relatives of those who’ve served.”

Richard says, “It’s a great privilege to be involved in such an important event as ‘Wingecarribee Remembers’.  So many people aren’t fully aware of the contribution of our service men and women in the past and the support the RSL Sub-Branch provides to them today.  I hope my work will create an impact that will help to highlight the important role the RSL plays in our community today."
