Work Experience Opportunities 

Gain valuable insights and inspiration through a work experience placement with us.

If you’re a student in years 10-12 or studying at TAFE, university or college, an Australian citizen or resident, our work experience program opens the door to real-life opportunities to participate in a role that interests you, with helpful mentoring from seasoned professionals in the field.  

Work Experience Opportunities:
  • Business Administration

  • Civil Construction - Roads (Open to TAFE and higher education students only not available to high school students. Must hold a current Construction White Card and meet basic Work Health and Safety requirements).* 

  • Community Development

  • Electrical*

  • Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitting/machining)*

  • Environmental Health*

  • Finance (unavailable between June and September)

  • Heavy Vehicle Mechanics (Open to TAFE and higher education programs related to automotive or mechanical qualification only not available to high school students. Must hold a current Construction White Card and meet basic Work Health and Safety requirements)*

  • Information and Communications Technology

  • Information Management (Records)

  • Infrastructure Construction (Open to TAFE and higher education students only not available to high school students. Must hold a current Construction White Card and meet basic Work Health and Safety requirements)

  • Libraries

  • Parks and Open Spaces*

  • People and Capability

  • Project Management*
  • Roads Maintenance (Open to TAFE and higher education students only not available to high school students. Must hold a current Construction White Card and meet basic Work Health and Safety requirements)

Am I eligible for Work Experience?

You can apply for work experience with Council if:

  •  You're an Australian citizen or resident
  • You’re currently studying at high school (Years 10, 11, 12) TAFE, university or college
  • You can provide Public Liability and Personal Injury insurance cover from your place of study

Step 1

Step 2

Complete our online Work Experience Application Form.

Use our handy check list to ensure you include all the information we need to process your Work Experience application.

Provide a copy of your education providers Public Liability Insurance and Personal Injury Insurance (your education administration will be able to help you with this)

If accepted into the program: High School students, must provide a copy of the education provider’s work placement form completed by the student, the school and Wingecarribee Shire Council prior to placement commencing.

Step 4

Once your online application form is submitted it will be reviewed by People & Capability team and the Learning and Development Officer will then respond to you.

Do I need anything to take part in Work Experience

Yes, you need to arrange indemnity insturance.

Note: If you are currently a student, your education provider will assist with arranging this for you whilst you complete work experience, a certicate of currency.

Business Administration Traineeships

Offered by a range of branches at Council.

An opportunity to develop your skills and capabilities for general office duties specific to a department while studying toward a Certificate IV in Business Administration at TAFE. 

 

Fresh Start Program Apprentices

Apprentices such as Electrician, Sports Turf Worker, and Plumber. Visit our current opportunities page to apply. 

First Nations Traineeships

Each year, a number of positions are offered within our traineeship program to applicants who identify as being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island background. Exemption granted under section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. 

Attractive Cadetships

Council can open doors to cadetships in areas such as engineering, planning and library services if you are studying toward qualifications in these fields.

Our cadetships offer employment for the length of your degree with practical study leave options to help you achieve a balance between your studies and full-time employment.  In addition, university tuition fees are paid under Council’s Training and Development Procedure.
