Asbestos Management

Asbestos products are likely to be found in any Australian home built or renovated before 1987 including brick, weatherboard, fibro and clad homes (cladding may cover original fibro).

Backyard Burning Steps

Individual properties that are 4000 square metres and above are eligible to burn, provided the property is not zoned medium density (R3)

Business & The Environment

Wingecarribee Shire Council contains a wide variety of industry ranging from mechanical workshops/smash repairs and warehousing to agricultural based industries such as nurseries and wineries.

Coal Seam Gas and Longwall Mining

In November 2012 Wingecarribee Shire Council declared itself a Coal Seam Gas (CSG) and Longwall Mining Free Shire, installing signage at entry points to the region.

Erosion and Sediment Control

Changes in land uses from rural, open space or bushland settings to other forms have the potential to; Cause dramatic disturbances to the soil, destroy vegetation, alter natural drainage pathways, affect the environmental and amenity values adversely, not only at the site, but areas downstream.

Iron Bacteria

If you have seen a reddish-brown sediment, stain or substance in your local waterway or stormwater drains, don’t be alarmed. The chances are that this is being caused by iron bacteria, which is a naturally occurring micro-organism.
