Earth Flix: Cinema 4 Change, screening our eighth film: The Koala's. 

Synopsis: This documentary delves into the plight of the Koala – an iconic species that could go extinct by 2050. Collaborating with environmental groups, activists, and experts, Documentary Australia explores The Koala’s story across Australia’s east coast, with a special focus on a lesser-known koala population in South-west Sydney.

Despite efforts to preserve koala habitat, massive housing developments pose imminent threats. Through encounters with dedicated individuals like Pat, Barry, and wildlife carers, we witness the fight to safeguard koala corridors against urban expansion. Regardless of the protests and legal appeals, government support for development persists, raising questions about environmental regulations and sustainable urban growth.

We follow the journeys of rescued koalas in Lismore and Port Macquarie and see the challenges they face, including Chlamydia, a disease that can be exacerbated by bushfires. We visit koala hospitals and witness scientific research efforts which confront the urgent need for stronger conservation measures. The documentary scrutinises the impact of political decisions and economic interests on the survival of koala populations, highlighting the ongoing battle for habitat protection.
