Earth Flix: Cinema 4 Change, screening our third film: The Giants.

Synopsis: The Giants is a captivating biopic celebrating Bob Brown, a pioneering environmentalist and leader of the world’s first Green party. Intertwined with Brown's remarkable journey is the fascinating life cycle of Australia’s giant trees, from humble seedlings to majestic forest elders. The film draws upon Brown’s five decades of activism, highlighting pivotal moments like the Franklin campaign and ongoing battles for the Tarkine rainforest.

Through stunning cinematography and immersive forest landscapes, viewers are immersed in the beauty and grandeur of nature. Monumental tree portraits and animated forest scans bring these ancient giants to life on screen. Beyond its visual splendor, The Giants sparks dialogue about conservation and inspires action to protect our planet's ecosystems. It serves as a poignant reminder of our interconnectedness with the environment and the urgent need for collective stewardship. The Giants invite audiences to reflect on the legacy of environmental activism and the importance of preserving our natural world for future generations.

Discussion: In addition to the screening we will have a special guest, Professor David Lindenmayer of the Australian National University who has just launched his new book, 'The Forest Wars". Professor Lindemayer is one of the world’s leading forest ecologists, conservation biologists and was involved in much of the filming and research in the making of The Giants. David's research shows the extraordinary value of our old growth forests for habitat and carbon storage and, critically for drought-prone Australia water cycles.
