Regional Mayors Join Forces to Drive Shared Priorities

The Mayors of eight councils from across the Illawarra, Macarthur and Southern Highlands have come together to discuss shared regional challenges and opportunities, with a focus on delivering better outcomes for local communities.

Led by Wollongong City Council Lord Mayor Tania Brown, the forum brought together leaders from Wingecarribee, Wollondilly, Camden, Campbelltown, Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven and Wollongong councils.

Wingecarribee Shire Council Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick attended the meeting and contributed to a productive, future-focused discussion. The group agreed to work collaboratively on key regional priorities, including improved connectivity, housing, job creation and stronger partnerships with state and federal governments.

“Regional collaboration is essential to shaping a better future for all our communities,” Mayor Fitzpatrick said. “By joining forces, we strengthen our voice and create real momentum on the issues that matter, from infrastructure and housing to jobs and services. Vital connections, particularly infrastructure that links our LGAs, are key to supporting growth and improving the way our communities live, work and travel. Wingecarribee is proud to be part of this regional effort.”

The Mayors agreed to build on existing strong local government alliances and explore opportunities to partner on strategic infrastructure and planning projects as a unified 'super-region.'
