Wingecarribee Shire Council was pleased to welcome the NSW Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Ron Hoenig MP, to the Southern Highlands last week, with the visit showcasing Council’s progress and renewed direction.
During his tour, the Minister acknowledged the significant strides made by the newly elected Council and praised its leadership in navigating the Shire through a period of renewal and growth.
“The freshly elected Council has worked incredibly hard to put the Council’s past troubles squarely in the rear-view mirror,” Minister Hoenig said.
“I’m pleased that Wingecarribee Shire’s return to democratic representation is on the right track,” he said.
The visit included a tour of the Moss Vale Sewage Treatment Plant upgrade, providing insight into this vital infrastructure project that supports the future prosperity and liveability of the region.
The Minister was also introduced to a Landscape Crew Member employed through the NSW Government’s Fresh Start program, which is a key workforce development initiative supporting apprentices, trainees, and cadets in local government.
Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick welcomed the Minister’s positive remarks and took pride in showcasing the Council’s progress.
“It was an honour to have the Minister visit and see firsthand the commitment our Council and staff have to serving our community,” Mayor Fitzpatrick said.
“His recognition of our efforts to rebuild trust and deliver for the people of Wingecarribee is a testament to the hard work being done across the organisation.”
General Manager Lisa Miscamble said that the visit was a chance to highlight Council’s dedication to long-term planning, sustainable infrastructure, and workforce development.
“We’re proud of how far we’ve come and grateful for the opportunity to demonstrate the important projects underway to support our growing Shire,” Lisa said.
