Wingecarribee Shire Council has adopted the Wingecarribee Libraries Plan 2026–2030, setting a five-year vision for libraries that continue to evolve beyond the bookshelf into modern, inclusive community hubs.

You said, we listened. Shaped through extensive community consultation, the Plan responds directly to community feedback for more accessible library spaces, expanded programs and events, improved digital services, and expanded collections and resources.

That vision is already taking shape through upgrades to Mittagong Library and the launch of a new Wingecarribee Libraries website.

A major upgrade is set for Mittagong Library following Council’s successful grant of more than $200,000 through the NSW Government’s State Library of NSW Public Library Infrastructure Grants program.

The project will deliver new mobile shelving, furniture, carpet, RFID technology and automatic doors, improving accessibility, functionality and the overall community experience.

These upgrades will create a more adaptable and welcoming space, reflecting what the community has said they want their libraries to be.

Council has also launched a new Wingecarribee Libraries website to improve accessibility, navigation and access to digital services and resources.

Wingecarribee Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick said it was encouraging to see the Library Plan already being delivered through early actions across the library network.

“With almost 30,000 active members across a population of 54,000, Wingecarribee Libraries are treasured community spaces for people of all ages.

“The launch of the new website and securing funding for the Mittagong Library are major wins, strengthening access to learning, connection and opportunity.”

The Wingecarribee Libraries Plan 2026–2030 guides the future direction of library services, spaces and programs across the Shire over the next five years.
