Water Main Break Impacting Mittagong

The critical section of the water main has now been repaired. The second stage of works, which includes replacing the valve, is expected to be completed with water restored by 9:00pm.
As supply returns, we will be carrying out mains flushing to help improve overall water quality. Customers may still experience turbid or discoloured water as the system stabilises.

Wingecarribee Shire Council provides the following update on the burst water main beside McDonald’s on Bessemer Street, Mittagong. Council crews are working to isolate the break while rerouting water from neighbouring areas.
Council has three supply points into the impacted zone from neighbouring areas. These are meeting some of the local demand, but service levels will vary across the community:
- Some residents will experience reduced water pressure
- Some higher-elevation properties may have no water
- Some residents may notice discoloured water as the system depressurises and repressurises
The exact number of affected properties is still being confirmed and will be updated once network rerouting is complete. Many customers may have temporary water supply restored while water is redirected through neighbouring zones.
Water supply is expected to be restored by approximately 6:00 PM, though some residents may experience outages into the late evening.

Wingecarribee Shire Council advises residents of a burst water main next to McDonald’s in Mittagong. Emergency services are on-site due to surface water on the road, and Council’s operational team is isolating the burst while back-feeding water from other zones.
Impacted Area:
Approximately 500–1000 residents and businesses in the Mittagong CBD and surrounding areas (see pink area map). The exact number of affected properties will be confirmed over the next 1–2 hours as the team is continuing to reroute water supply across the network to limit the impact.
Estimated Restoration Time:
Water supply is expected to be restored by 6:00 PM.
Council water crews are prioritising repairs and restoring normal supply as quickly as possible. Residents are advised to monitor updates and take care around surface water on the road.
