The Mayor of Wingecarribee Shire Council is one of nine (9) Councillors and is elected, as Mayor, by the other Councillors. The Mayor continues to have the role of a Councillor and, in addition, has the specific role defined by Section 226 of the Act. This role is to:
Key Responsibilities:
- Decision-Making: The Mayor can make important decisions for the Council when it's not in session.
- Council Meetings: The Mayor chairs Council meetings.
- Representing the Council: The Mayor is the public face of the Council at events and ceremonies.
Other Responsibilities:
- Authorising Urgent Work: The Mayor can approve small, urgent projects.
- Handling Urgent Matters: During Council breaks, the Mayor can deal with urgent issues using existing Council guidelines.
- Signing Cheques: The Mayor signs cheques along with other approved signatories.
