What is Plastic Free July? 

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. Its about recognising better options and being more conscious of the waste coming from your home. 

Did you Know? Greater Sydney’s landfill space is expected to run out by 2030 unless urgent action is taken (EPA 2026)

Workshop Details

Join us at the Upcycle Centre - The Education Room for a hands-on Plastic Free July workshop and learn simple ways to reduce single-use plastics at home.

This practical workshop will show participants how small everyday swaps can make a big difference. You will make and take home your own reusable beeswax wraps and multipurpose cleaning spray, while learning tips for shopping smarter, storing food, reducing packaging and making low-waste choices around the home. The workshop is designed to be relaxed, beginner-friendly and practical, with easy ideas you can continue using after the session. All materials will be provided.

What you’ll do:

Learn simple ways to reduce plastic at home
Make your own beeswax wraps
Make your own multipurpose cleaning spray
Take home practical low-waste tips and resources
Discover easy swaps for the kitchen, bathroom and cleaning cupboard

Who can attend:
This workshop is suitable for beginners and anyone interested in reducing plastic waste at home. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

What to bring:
All workshop materials will be supplied

Tips on how to be plastic free

Learning how to live without single-use plastic means changing behaviours and habits, which can sometimes be difficult. There are lots of resources available to help you avoid or reduce the use of plastics in your life.  

We are fortunate to have some inspiring residents who are achieving great things when it comes to reducing their reliance on plastic.

There are so many resources out there on how to reduce our dependence on plastics, both single use and other types of plastics. The Plastic Free July team have done a great job in collating many of these resources under one website.   • In 2015, Australians consumed 726 million litres of bottled water*

  • Bottled water requires up to 2000 times more energy to produce than tap water*
