Council implemented a revised seating arrangement in the Chamber at the April 2026 Council Meeting.

The Chamber is both a workplace and a place of public decision-making, and Council has a legislative obligation to provide a safe and respectful working environment. The change was made following a number of concerns relating to the Chamber environment, including psychosocial factors and potential reputational risk.

Periodically reviewing how the space supports effective and respectful interaction is part of meeting these obligations. This adjustment is intended to support more constructive discussion and maintain a professional environment consistent with the standards set out in Council’s Code of Conduct and the General Managers obligations under the Work Health Safety Act.
