On inclement days or where temperatures fall below 18 degrees, two of the three Swimming Centres will be closed from 9:00am. Signage at the pool entrance will provide details of any open pools.

If the Bowral Swimming Centre is booked due to school programs outside school holiday hours, Council will open the Mittagong Swimming Centre between 9am – 2pm should the centre not be booked, and staff are available to cover the additional hours.

If the forecast weather 48 hours prior to the date, predicts the temperature will be 32 degrees or greater at 6pm, Bowral Swimming Centre will remain open until 7pm subject to staff availability and that the pool is not already being utilised by Swim Club or casual booking

The Swimming Centres will be open each day of the swimming season excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Only Mittagong Swimming Centre will be open on Boxing Day.

Please remember to check with your local centre for availability during school hours as our Centres are heavily used for school activities and carnivals.

COVID-19 and how it affects our 2020/2021 pool season

Health and safety of our customers is our top priority therefore we have made a few changes around our facilities to ensure the community members are safe. Please read the following changes and come prepared when visiting the facility.

Stay home if you are unwell

If you are unwell please do not visit the facility. Anybody displaying cold/flu like symptoms will not be granted entry.

Recording your visit

Scan the QR code so that your visit can be recorded. Once you arrive at the entry window to pay for your visit please show the green tick on your mobile device. If you do not have a mobile device, please provide the relevant details to pool staff and they will record the visit for you. If you do not provide your contact details, you will be refused entry into the facility.

Cashless payment preferred

We will still be accepting cash as payment though we would prefer you to use a credit or debit card.

Maximum Capacity Areas

We have displayed signage across the facility illustrating the maximum capacity of each space within our facility, please ensure you abide by this. Council will close their facilities at any time to ensure social distancing can be maintained.

Sanitise Station

We have a sanitise station set up upon entry, please sanitise when visiting.

Bubblers Not Operational

Bubblers are not to be used however drink bottles may be filled from the bottle fill station however the top of your drink bottle must not touch the dispenser.

Limit Shower Use

Showers are still operational and available to use though we ask that you please limit your time in the changerooms by coming to the facility ready to swim and shower at home.

Social Distancing

Please keep 1.5m away from staff and other patrons at all times

No Grouping in Lanes - Please do not group at the end of lanes as this breaches the social distancing guidelines. Please exit the pool when you are not swimming.

Thunderstorm Evacuation

The presence of lightning around an outdoor swimming pool is a safety risk and as such, Lifeguards will evacuate pools when lightning is within 10km of the aquatic venue. Normally you would evacuate the pool to a covered area onsite which provides sufficient electrical earthing in the event of a lightning strike. However, due to the minimal space available undercover at each of the facilities if a thunderstorm is within 10km of the pool the centre will be completely evacuated as there is insufficient space for customers to maintain social distancing in accordance with NSW Government COVID-19 restrictions. No refunds will be granted so please check the weather prior to visiting your local outdoor swimming pool.

No Loaning of Pool Equipment

Please bring your own pool equipment to the facility, if you forget to bring your equipment such as googles we are unable to lend these to you for your swim.

COVID Safe Marshal

During peak times at our facilities there will be a dedicated Safety Marshal onsite to ensure social distancing is maintained between patrons visiting the facility and that all touch points are regularly cleaned.

Kiosk

We may restrict what is sold at the kiosk to ensure social distancing requirements can be met during busier times. This may mean hot food operation will cease.

Confirmed COVID case at one of the swimming centres

In the event of a confirmed case within the facility Council will be guided by the Department of Health on the next steps.

Learn to Swim

Swim and Survive is a comprehensive swimming and water safety initiative of Royal Life Saving that seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of all Australian children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.

Swim and Survive has been educating Australian children for over 25 years, originally as a school based program for children aged 5-14 years. Since it’s commencement in 1982, the drowning statistics for this age group has experienced a 75% decrease.

Swim and Survive - Active

Wingecarribee Shire Council offers a swimming and water safety program for children between the ages of 5 to 14 years.

'Active' is used to emphasise that skills learnt in the program not only save lives but provide a foundation for participation in a range of aquatic recreation, fitness and sporting activities.

Active is a swimming and personal aquatic survival program that develops skills across the following strands:

  • Entries and exits
  • Underwater skills
  • Rescue skills
  • Movement and swimming strokes
  • Floating and sculling
  • Survival PFD skills
  • Water Safety knowledge

For more information about the Swim and Survive program please visit: Swim and Survive.

Mermaid Tails & Fins

The use of mermaid tails and mono fins are not permitted at any of Council's Swimming Centres.

Please find below the risks associated with these fins:

  • Dramatically increases the risk of drowning, shallow water blackout and hypoxia.
  • Binding the legs together reduces the ability to balance and support yourself.
  • Restrict movement of the legs; preventing children from using a freestyle kick which is most commonly used – especially in situations of distress.
  • Requires constant close 1 on 1 supervision which is cannot be sustained in busy aquatic centre.
  • Reported cases of children becoming stuck upside down
