Behaviour Change

The drive needed to change a person's environmental practices won't occur overnight - the drive comes from within, and this drive is different for everyone. The Sustainable Us program Wingecarribee Shire Council created recognises that people are motivated by different elements. For some, it’s the potential for cost savings, which can be achieved by turning off your lights, attending a swap event, like a clothes swap or seed swap, or by reducing your food waste; for others, it’s a desire to reduce environmental impact, a good place to start is to look at your carbon footprint, and then encourage friends and family to make some changes. For example, making sure the financial institutions that hold your insurance, and bank accounts don't invest in fossil fuels or by improving the way you recycle can all have a big impact. Keep in mind, no action is too small.

The Behaviour Change page highlights that while motivations vary, the outcome is the same - adopting everyday habits that are better for people and the planet. By understanding what drives us, we can create lasting change across our community. Together, small steps add up to big impacts - helping reduce our footprint, protect our environment, and build a more sustainable future.
