Background

Bowral Street is a two-lane sealed roadway with a posted speed limit of 50 km/h. The section between Sheffield Street and Property 117 has been assessed as being in very poor condition, with issues including inadequate drainage, deteriorated road surfaces, and flooding during heavy rainfall events.

This portion of the road requires resurfacing with a new asphalt wearing course, replacement of the road base, relining of drainage pipes, and the installation of new stormwater pits and pipes. Approximately 370 metres of pavement will be renewed. Bowral Street is a heavily trafficked route that provides access to Bowral and District Hospital and serves as a key entry point to the Bowral town centre, including a private hospital, shopping centres, cafés, hotels, train station, emergency services, Bradman Museum & International Cricket Hall of Fame, sportsfield and parks.

Access to the hospital, buses, and emergency services will be maintained at all times during the works. Construction will be carried out in stages to minimise disruption and inconvenience to road users, the hospital, the wider community, and nearby properties.

Project Works

Works for this project are expected to commence from 12 April 2026 and be completed by 23 April 2026 (Weather permitting). The works will include:

• Installation of 18m of Stormwater pits and pipes
• Relining of 25m of Stormwater pipes
• Reconstruction of road pavement
• Reinstate line marking

Community Impacts

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to remain vigilant for heavy machinery and construction personnel in the area, follow the traffic signage,  traffic controllers on site, variable message boards and exercise caution when travelling through the work zones.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the construction period.
