Australia Day Berrima Market Place 2023

The Southern Highlands community family fun day returned to the historic township of Berrima this Australia Day and lots of peopled joined the celebrations.

Citizens of the Year were announced

Congratulations are in order for Uta and Dennis Purcell, who have been named the 2024 Citizens of the Year by Wingecarribee Shire Council. Additionally, Mackenzie Isedale has been honored as the 2024 Young Citizen of the Year.

Working in harmony as a dynamic duo, Uta and Dennis Purcell, residents of Burradoo, jointly secured the title of Wingecarribee Shire Council's Citizens of the Year 2024. Their commendable contributions to local education, charities, and the arts earned them this prestigious recognition. The title of 2024 Young Citizen of the Year goes to Mackenzie Isedale from Welby, acknowledging her remarkable fundraising and charity efforts in the aftermath of her battle with cancer

Additional Recognition

We'd also like to recognise and congratulate the following on their national recognition: 

·       Professor Ian Bickerton OAM – for his distinguished service to tertiary education and mental health support organisations 

·       Mr Peter Reynolds OAM – for his distinguished service to Local Government and the community through a range of roles 

·       Mr Peter Lowry AM – whilst a Sydney lower north shore resident, he is well known as a business operator in the Berrima Community. 

The day’s events kicked off at 9am with the Citizenship Ceremony and 2024 Citizen and Young Citizen of Year Awards followed by a full day of market stalls, family-friendly activities and rides, live music and much, much more.
