Mentoring Men provides free, short to long-term, one-on-one life mentoring to men aged 18+ through regular conversations with a trained volunteer mentor. The program fosters trust, acceptance, insight, and personal growth, with a focus on wellbeing through non-clinical, strengths-based support.

Following the National Men’s Health Strategy, 2020-2023, which acknowledges gender can have an influence on health. Mentoring Men sits within a guiding principle offering a male-centred program. Outcomes focused on men being proactive participants in a preventative measure, reducing stigmas, improving quality of life for men and thereby positively impacting their networks and communities.

What to expect…

Mentoring is a collaborative relationship where trained volunteers with diverse lived-experiences, a mentor, guide and support men seeking personal growth and development, a mentee.

This partnership is built on trust, mutual respect, and agreed upon goals. Creating an opportunity where open, non-judgemental conversations can thrive. A mentor is not there to provide all the answers but to listen, offer insights, and encourage self-reflection, helping a mentee navigate challenges, gain confidence, and develop new perspectives.

Through this process mentees hear they are not alone, affirming that other men face similar struggles, and the ways forward are possible.

The role of a mentor is to first establish trust and provide a supportive presence, but as a mentee gains clarity and direction, the mentor gradually steps back, allowing the mentee to take ownership of their growth.

For men who step into the role of a mentor, this experience offers an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, share life lessons, and make a real difference in another man's journey. While often discovering a renewed sense of fulfillment and purpose in their own lives.

Mentoring can take place in person, over the phone, or through virtual chat. Whether at a coffee shop or on zoom, the conversation moves beyond the usual ‘How are you?’ – ‘Good.’ Creating an opportunity for real, practical discussions about the challenges men face in their lives. While deeper than everyday small talk, it is not a therapy session or a clinical deep dive. It offers an opportunity for honest, ‘unmasked’ conversations, free from judgment, where men can openly share, reflect, and gain new perspectives in a supportive and relatable way.
