This December, Berrima Singers teams up with a harpist to bring you stirring vocal energies paired with swelling and shimmering curtains of melody. We start by presenting the most well-known melodies composed by Gabriel Fauré and Erik Satie – the Pavane and Gymnopédies No. 1 – in versions for harp and small orchestra, along with Gustav Holst’s much less famous Two Eastern Pictures, inspired by his translations of ancient Indian texts.

Benjamin Britten set texts from the 14th and 15th centuries about infant Jesus and Mary in a major work titled A Ceremony of Carols, for choir and harp. In this concert, we present the version for full adult choir from 1955. Our ensemble will perform Maurice Ravel’s Introduction and allegro for harp, flute, clarinet and string quartet – widely hailed as a masterful harp mini-concerto. Lastly to honour the season of nativity, there will also be a set of very familiar movements containing the message from the Angel to the shepherds in Handel’s Messiah
