The Urban Tree Policy(PDF, 230KB) was adopted by Council on 19 November 2025.

The objectives of this policy are.

  • Establish a cohesive framework of guidelines to effectively manage both public and private trees and vegetation across the Wingecarribee local government area.
  • To use canopy cover as the primary guiding data for all tree management actions in the Shire.
  • Advocate for the urban forest as a vital and integrated element of the landscape, engaging the community, developers, and Council staff in its recognition and protection.
  • Safeguard trees that hold historical, social, and environmental significance within the region.
  • Enhance species diversity, age variation, and canopy coverage to strengthen the resilience of the urban forest and mitigate the impacts of climate change and urban heat.
  • Define a strategic and balanced approach to tree management that aligns with long-term environmental and community priorities.
  • Ensure the systematic management, maintenance, and protection of Wingecarribee Shire’s trees through consistent policies and practices.
  • Minimise risks to property, infrastructure, and the community by implementing Council’s Tree Risk Management Plan(PDF, 7MB)  (TRMP) under the Urban Tree Management Strategy(PDF, 12MB)  (UTMS).
