Come and try a Council Career: Investing in Women

Funded by Women NSW, Wingecarribee Shire Council is offering an exciting opportunity for local women to participate in a work placement in traditionally male-dominated fields at Council.

This ‘Come and Try’ program is aiming to improve women’s economic opportunities in our local area.

Who can apply?

Local women over the age of 15 are invited to apply for this work placement opportunity.

When is it?

Local women can participate in their week-long work placement opportunity between January and March 2024. Successful applicants must commit to 5 ‘Come and Try’ days and attend the appropriate work location for approximately 6 hours per day. The specific week will be determined with the applicant and the team hosting the placement.

Where is it?

Depending on the team within Council you’d like to do your work placement with, the Come and Try program will occur at various locations across the Shire, including the Civic Centre, the Moss Vale Depot, the Mittagong Depot, the Wingecarribee Water Treatment Plant, or the Resource Recovery Centre.

How can I participate?

Interested women are encouraged to submit their Expressions of Interest online or by calling the Community Development team on 02 4868 0888. Once Expressions of Interest are gathered, Council officers will be in touch with you to arrange next steps.

What will I need?

As part of the grant funding from Women NSW, we are able to provide successful applicants with the materials required to perform their work placement. Women participating in this project will need different things depending on where within Council they’re doing their placement.

Where necessary for the placement, this may include personal protective equipment such as work boots, glasses, gloves, hard-hats. Successful applicants will be able to keep this PPE to support their future career pathways. Please note that PPE is only provided to the women who require PPE as part of their work placement.
