Like many other organisations, Wingecarribee Shire Council relies on volunteers to assist with the provision of services and facilities for the community.
Volunteering is an enjoyable and very rewarding way to get involved in activities which make a real difference to the Southern Highlands. Through their commitment and energy, volunteers enrich the fabric of our Highlands community.
Council currently offers volunteering opportunities in the following areas:
Section 355 Management Committees
355 Committees assist Council in the management of a number of our community facilities (e.g. Halls; Sporting grounds).

Animal Shelter
Volunteers at the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter assist with dog walking and socialising kittens and cats. Both activities assist animals in becoming more adoptable.

Community representation on committees is for the term of each Council (4 years).
In addition to these opportunities with Council, there are a much broader range of volunteering opportunities available through Volunteering Wingecarribee, the not-for-profit community volunteering organisation servicing our Shire.
The aim of Volunteering Wingecarribee is to provide a volunteer resource service that:
- Links volunteers and organisations together by providing recruitment and referral services.
- Promotes best practice and provides training in volunteer management.
- Develops partnerships and facilitates cooperation between organisations which depend on volunteers, encouraging the sharing of resources, skills and knowledge.
- Promotes the variety of volunteering opportunities available and the benefits of volunteering to all sectors of the community.
- Acts as a resource centre for volunteering, providing advice and information to support volunteer activities.
- Acts as an advocate for volunteering issues.
Volunteering Wingecarribee is a not-for-profit incorporated community organisation.
It is headed by a Management Committee and coordinated by a part-time Manager assisted by a group of volunteers.
Volunteering Wingecarribee is funded by a small allocation from Wingecarribee Shire Council, grants for projects, membership fees, fund raising and donations.
