Learn to Swim

Swim and Survive

Swim and Survive is a comprehensive swimming and water safety initiative of Royal Life Saving that seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of all Australian children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.

Swim and Survive has been educating Australian children for over 25 years, originally as a school based program for children aged 5-14 years. Since it’s commencement in 1982, the drowning statistics for this age group has experienced a 75% decrease.

Wingecarribee Shire Council offers a swimming and water safety program for children between the ages of 5 to 14 years.

'Active' is used to emphasise that skills learnt in the program not only save lives but provide a foundation for participation in a range of aquatic recreation, fitness and sporting activities.

Active is a swimming and personal aquatic survival program that develops skills across the following strands:

• Entries and exits
• Underwater skills
• Rescue skills
• Movement and swimming strokes
• Floating and sculling
• Survival PFD skills
• Water Safety knowledge.
