More about this event

Council is partnering with Birdlife Southern Highlands to encourage participation in the Bird Count across Wingecarribee Shire.

The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is on again this year from 19-25 October 2020. It is so easy to get involved, and you don't need to be an expert! If you can recognise a Galah, Kookaburra and Magpie, then you can count birds for 20 minutes! It is a fun activity for you and the family, to get out into your backyard or local park and see what birds are living near us.

The initiative asks citizen scientists to record bird observations while completing a 20-minute survey in their backyard, local park, bushland reserve or place of interest. Participants can undertake as many surveys as they want during the week.

This event is free and is a fun, safe and self-directed activity using the free Bird Count app and web page
