One of the key features of the Southern Highlands is our local waterways. Rivers like the Wingecarribee River provide habitat for aquatic species like the platypus and contribute to Sydney’s drinking water supply. Council coordinates water quality monitoring and the Waterwatch program to assess waterway health. We also prepare flood studies to assist with future planning and community safety.

 

 

Flood Studies

Under the NSW Flood Prone Land Policy the management of flood prone land is, primarily, the responsibility of councils.

Waterwatch Program

Wingecarribee Shire Council's Waterwatch program is monitoring the health of key urban waterways including Mittagong Creek Bowral, Lake Alexandra Mittagong, Caalang Creek Robertson and Whites Creek Moss Vale.
