Wingecarribee Bushcare and Rivercare is comprised of community volunteers and Council environment teams who work together to restore natural areas on Council owned or managed land.

More than 360 people from across the Shire participated in Wingecarribee Bushcare and Rivercare in 2022, with 1043 hours of volunteering achieved and 3339 native plants planted.

New volunteers are always welcome.

Volunteer for biodiversity

The Wingecarribee Shire is fortunate to have a diverse number of ecological communities and is considered a biodiversity hotspot, with many iconic species including koalas, platypus, glossy-black cockatoos and Mittagong geebung.

Bushcare and Rivercare volunteers form a vital component of our community's efforts to protect and restore those natural areas.

Each year our community's Bushcare and Rivercare volunteers plant up to 5000 native plants at more than 30 remnant bushland reserves, wetlands, and riparian areas across an area in excess of 3000 ha, with tube stock propagated by volunteers and Council teams at the Wingecarribee Native Plant Community Nursery at Moss Vale.

The Wingecarribee Bushcare and Rivercare program complements private land conservation to improve the overall biodiversity outcomes for the Shire.

If there is a locality or reserve you would like to see rehabilitated or restored, please let us know and we will investigate whether bush regeneration is feasible for that site.

If you have any questions about joining our volunteer team, please contact Council's Environment Officer for Bushcare and Citizen Science by phone on (02) 4868 0888 or by email at mail@wsc.nsw.gov.au
