Fraud and Corruption Control

Council is committed to a zero tolerance approach to fraud and corruption. In support of this commitment and in accordance with relevant legislative obligations, Council has developed a suite of policies to guide the ethical behaviour of Council officials and any businesses that Council has dealings with. The policies also establish the framework for how reports of suspected fraud and corruption will be managed. These policies include:

  • Code of Conduct
  • Fraud and Corruption Control Policy
  • Gifts and Benefits Policy
  • Public Interest Disclosures Policy
  • Statement of Business Ethics
  • Statement of Ethics

A copy of each of these policy documents can be found on Council's Policies webpage.

Members of the public are encouraged to make reports about suspected fraud or corruption involving Council to either the General Manager or the Group Manager Corporate and Community, or if the report concerns the General Manager it can be made to the Mayor. The Public Interest Disclosures Policy also details external government agencies that certain conduct can be reported to.

Gifts and Benefits Register

Under its Gifts and Benefits Policy (adopted 13 February 2019), Council has committed to making its Gifts and Benefits Register publicly available on its website in accordance with section 7 (Authorised proactive release of government information) of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act). Where appropriate, the Register has been amended for online publication to avoid the unnecessary disclosure of personal information, as permitted under the GIPA Act. This register is updated on a six monthly basis.
