Bird Watching in the Southern Highlands

Bird Watching in the Southern Highlands

The Southern Highlands is a bird watchers paradise, with more than 260 species of birds able to be seen within a 90-minute drive south of Sydney. Some are seasonal visitors, others are permanent residents.

Birdlife Southern Highlands is a very active local group that welcome new members, have interesting speakers and outings and very experienced bird watchers who will help you get started with your bird watching activities.

A great way to get to know birds, if you haven't much experience, is to get involved in the annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count, a citizen science opportunity that occurs in the third week of October each year. This provides us with a snapshot of the birds that live near us. For current and past reports and more information visit Citizen Science Opportunities.
