Get Ready Wingecarribee - 6 Week Challenge
Welcome to the Get Ready Wingecarribee Six Week Challenge
Here you'll find six weekly guides designed to break down the process of getting ready for the Bushfire Season into manageable steps. Our goal is to remove the stress and confusion from preparing, empowering you to create solid plans and build resilience.
We encourage all residents of the Wingecarribee Shire to join the 'Get Ready Challenge.' It’s never too late to start preparing, so feel free to use these guides at any time. Get involved, spread the word, and let’s Get Ready together!
This initiative is a partnership of Wingecarribee Shire Council and The Rural Fire Service Southern Highlands.
The official start date kicks off on 23 September. But it's never to early or too late to start. You can use these guides any time and should revisit them annually throughout the bush fire season.
Get involved, spread the word and let's Get Ready together!
Why do I need to get ready?
Bush fires are a reality in NSW, yet many residents are unprepared.
Only 25% of those in bush fire-prone areas have a Bush Fire Survival Plan.
Waiting until a fire hits can have tragic consequences.
Don’t put it off—making a plan is easy and could save your family this bush fire season.
How does the six week challenge work?
We want you and your family to be safe, prepared, and ready. That's why we've created a six-week series of guides filled with simple tasks, tips, family activities, and lots of helpful information and links. We aim to make this as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
While we hope you never have to use your plans, we want you to feel confident if you do.
We will cover tips for safety, practical actions you can take, and resources for finding more information—and best of all, it's easy!
While we aim to provide plenty of helpful information, we understand that every situation is unique. Bush fire safety begins in your street, and knowledge of your local area is crucial for staying safe.
