To foster a strong sense of local community in our villages, a series of community-run playgroups will be popping-up, starting at Exeter from Friday 25 August. Council put a call-out through Community Circles Wingecarribee to ask where there was a need and Community Associations will now facilitate groups in Exeter, Yerrinbool and Hill Top as a result.

The Country Women’s Association (CWA) Exeter branch had been working on the idea for some months but with the assistance from Community Circles will be first to start a weekly playgroup for their village, at The Farm Club in Werai, starting on Friday 25th August from 10am to 11:30am. “We are thrilled to invite local families to our first meetup, for a morning of play and connection,” says Fran Simons, President of the CWA Exeter Branch. “We’ll be sponsoring the Group to get up and running in conjunction with local parents.”

PlaygroupNSW will be assisting association with insurances, sourcing suitable facilities and necessary equipment hire.

Jane Gillis, a local mum of two young children who has been working alongside the Branch and other interested parents on the project, sees the initiative as an exciting development for the village and local area.

“It’s about building community and will be a safe and inclusive space for kids aged 0-6 and their carers to come and share time together. We’re open to their ideas on how their local playgroup takes shape.”

Providing Community Associations with opportunity to secure funding toward their local playgroups, Council’s Community Resilience Grants open this week.
