Sustainability and Social Justice are the guiding principles and values of Council’s Wingecarribee 2031+ Community Strategic Plan.
Sustainability means different things to different people. It can be described as the integration of environmental, social, economic and governance goals, processes and performances. However, these dimensions are not always in harmony.
The broader definition used in developing Wingecarribee 2031+ was:
“Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” Our Common Future, Brundtland 1987.
Wingecarribee Shire Council recognises the scientific and government position on climate change.
Council’s Environment Levy proudly sponsors the Business Sustainability Award in the Southern Highlands Local Business Awards.
Wingecarribee Shire Council and our community aim to promote the type of development that would reduce the use of fossil fuel.
Many of us are making efforts to reduce energy use at home or in business. No matter what your budget, you can make considerable energy savings by following a few simple ideas and suggestions.
The community decided in the Wingecarribee Shire Community Strategic Plan 2031+ to ensure that no development takes place in Wingecarribee that would threaten the underpinning natural resources of the area.
