New Resident Kit

Overview

Have you recently moved to the Southern Highlands or are you considering a tree change?

Our 'New Resident Kit' has been prepared as a quick link guide to the services provided by Council and other local organisations which will help you settle in and enjoy our wonderful part of the world.

Community

We have a vibrant community which offers many services and recreational opportunities.

Most villages in the Shire have an association which represents the local community. Association members know lots of information relevant to your new home and attending their meetings can be a great way to make friends in a new place.

Many of these groups have facebook pages, websites and noticeboards or publish newsletters.

Local News

Council issues a quarterly newsletter, media releases and public notices to keep the community informed.

We also issue emailed newsletters which you can subscribe to.

View past issues of our Council newsletters here.

If you're on the internet or have a smartphone check out our facebooktwitter and flickr pages.

Local Events and Social Activities

Our tourism team manages an Events Calendar which provides a great starting point for people wanting to attend local events or get involved in community activities.

Find out more at Destination Southern Highlands.

We also have a Fun Finder app which includes things to do for youth and families.

Learn more on our  fun finder page.

Garbage & Recycling

Council provides a domestic and commercial garbage service as well as a fortnightly greenwaste and recycling service for most parts of the Shire.

Resource Recovery Centre

The Resource Recovery Centre is a multi-award winning, modern waste recycling, collection and transfer facility aiming to facilitate the reduction of the volume of local waste going into landfill.

The Resource Recovery Centre is also home to the Reviva Centre.

The Reviva Centre sells all sorts of items that have been salvaged from the waste stream or discarded directly.

Pets

We love your furever friends but please make sure they are registered and tagged so we can easily contact you if they get lost.

Environment

There is so much going on in the environment field across our Shire that it is hard to summarise!

Koala tracking, creek rehabilitation, volunteer groups, training and more.

Rural Landholders

The Rural Partner Program is funded by the Environment Levy and is about providing support to rural landholders.

Council is active in assisting rural landholders to achieve a satisfying rural lifestyle balanced with the sustainable and productive use of land.

Emergency Services

We've compiled some useful information about safety, including Bushfire Neighbourhood Safer Places and Emergency contact numbers our safety page

Make sure you, your family and property are also prepared for bushfires.
