Increased COVID Testing for Sewage Treatment Plants

In a bid to keep our Shire COVID safe, Council is currently working with NSW Health as precautionary measure, to increase COVID testing at our Shires Sewerage Treatment Plants.

Council staff take sewage samples, which are then provided to NSW Health for laboratory analysis. The testing is performed by specialised laboratories which look for viral fragments of SARS-CoV-2. Fragments of the SARS-CoV-2 can shed from an infected person when washing their hands and bodies in sinks.

For further information on the NSW Government’s COVID-19 Sewage Surveillance Program visit www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/sewage-surveillance.aspx. Weekly surveillance reports can be viewed at www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/weekly-reports.aspx
