Bowral CBD Fire

On the evening of 1 July 2021, fire impacted many businesses at the intersection of Bong Bong and Wingecarribee Streets in Bowral.

We've since established communications with property and business owners, and convened working groups with insurers, NSW Police and other State authorities. Together we’ve been working towards safely reopening the roads and helping businesses resume normal trade. 

Safety
Safety remains our absolute first priority.

To protect pedestrians and motorists, the installation of safety fencing and hoarding has commenced. This will allow the upper floor of the buildings to be de-constructed shortly thereafter.

Banking

A temporary ANZ Bank ATM kiosk has been installed in Oxley Mall near the Coles loading dock. The kiosk features both deposit and withdrawal options.

Taxi services

The Bong Bong Street taxi rank has temporarily moved to Wingecarribee Street. You’ll find it between the Bank of Queensland (BOQ) and Helloworld Travel.

Street re-opening

Transport for NSW have partially reopened Bong Bong Street. Traffic can now continue north to the intersection of Wingecarribee Street where motorists must perform a U-turn to exit. The road is still closed between Wingecarribee and Merrigang Streets.

Once the top floor of the old building is removed the building owner can re-open the street to through traffic.

Business support

Council staff have met with over 100 business operators. Getting everyone safely back to business remains a priority and we have linked many businesses to available government assistance
