Residents can ask Council to plant a new street tree in front of their property.
Once Council has received a request, a qualified Arborist will inspect the planting site and make a decision on whether the tree planting request will be supported by Council and tree species to be planted. As part of this assessment process, Council will consider the above and below ground infrastructure and any future upgrades to the road or footpath environment. Council plants trees on Council parks and streets during the winter months of the year.
The ongoing watering of the tree is the resident’s responsibility. In addition, the species to be planted will be decided by Council, with consideration of the available budget, the maintenance requirement of the species and its availability.
Residents can also seek Council approval to plant trees on Council land, such as road reserves. Council assesses these requests on a case-by-case basis. However, Council will not normally grant approval for residents to plant shrubs and bushes on Council land, due to the maintenance requirements of these vegetation types.
