Water Restrictions in the Wingecarribee Shire

Water restrictions have been modified slightly in Wingecarribee Shire to encourage more responsible water use.

Whilst level one restrictions still apply, the hours of operation for domestic consumers have been changed.

No changes have been made to the level one restrictions for commercial users.

What you can do under the modified provisions.

  • People can use hand held hoses on the garden at any time of the day or night.
  • The hosing of hard surfaces like paths, driveways, paved areas and houses is banned.
  • Cars can be washed anytime with a bucket, then hosed off with a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle.
  • Fixed hoses and sprinklers  may be used at any time during the months of  April  to  October inclusive.
  • Fixed hoses and sprinklers can be used in the morning from 7am to 10am and at night from 6pm to 9pm on any day during the months of  November  to  March inclusive.
  • If you have a drip irrigation system you can use it at any time.
  • People can use their bore water, or recycled dam water anytime, but it is suggested property owners put up a sign saying Bore Water Used, or Recycled Water used, so that people don’t ring up and complain.

If you do get caught breaking the rules, you can pay an on the spot fine of $220, up to a maximum fine of $2,200 for misuse of the Council water supply.

It is stressed that in Wingecarribee Shire at present we only have level 1 water restrictions.  This is different to our neighbours linked to Sydney Water where stricter restrictions apply.
