The Southern Highlands Liquor Accord (SHLA) is pro-active agreement between groups and individuals who have common objectives and wish to work together to achieve those ends. The accord provides a framework to develop strategies to improve safety and security, reduce alcohol and drug related harm and improve the amenity of the Southern Highlands.The aim of the SHLA is to enhance the standing of the liquor industry in the eyes of the community and to reduce adverse public impacts and potential harms related to the use of alcohol and other drugs in the Southern Highlands, such as underage drinking, drink driving and other alcohol and drug related behaviour of an anti-social, violent or criminal nature. The SHLA has been operating since 1 September 2002. The SHLA document was reviewed in 2008 and a new version adopted on 16 September 2008. The 2008 SHLA has no end date and will remain valid until amended after review by the Committee of Management and subsequently authorised by a majority at a general meeting of the accord.
