Cycling is a great way to become fit and healthy, reduce your carbon footprint and have fun.

Free cycle training

During Bike Week 2009 a number of FREE cycle training courses were on offer in the Southern Highlands. The courses for adults (16+) were run by accredited AustCycle trainers who tailor the sessions to everyone.

We are pleased to announce that additional training days have become available.

If you’d like to learn how to ride properly, want to improve your skills for commuting or want to get off-road and need advanced cycling training… then book in now!

Training Details

AustCycle Sessions can be organised for beginner, intermediate or expert riders. The aim is to make lessons fun, exciting and engaging for everyone involved.

Beginner cyclists

  • An initial check and practice of basic cycling skills - conducted in a park away from traffic
 Intermediate to advanced cyclists
  1. Cycling on quiet roads to learn what to do on a bike in low to moderate traffic
  2. Cycling in regular traffic to practice urban traffic cycling skills - with regular stops to discuss different situations cyclists come across
  3. Learning different cycling drills on a variety of roads – the instructors will demonstrate the various drills first and then course participants will practice them

All training is conducted by accredited AustCycle Teachers (trainers) who must hold an approved first aid qualification and have a satisfactory Police check if they work with children. All adhere to the AustCycle Code of Behaviour and meet AustCycle’s professional development requirements and standards for training as assessed by AustCycle auditors.

Wingecarribee Shire Council is able to offer the training thanks to support from the Department of Environment and Climate Change, NSW (DECC). Together we support increased levels of cycling, fitter and healthier residents, a reduction in the carbon footprint of our community, safer cycling and the responsible use of bikes for transport, fitness and fun.
