Local government social plans are about people’s access to the resources and services they require to meet their basic needs and to maintain the quality of their daily lives. Chapter 1. of the Social Plan summarises community needs or issues and actions for implementation over 2006 to 2010. Community needs identified through the planning process relate to major trends impacting on the Shire community, most particularly those influenced by Council responsibilities and functions. Under Local Government regulation, Council must include in the Shire Management Plan, priority access and equity activities drawn from the Social Plan and report on outcomes in the Shire Annual Report. Action plans presented in Chapter 1. have been considered in the context of Council resources, State or Commonwealth responsibilities and potential sources of funding.
