Council Declares War on Indian Myna Birds...... - 17 Jul 2008
Council is gathering as much information from the community regarding locations, population sizes etc. The idea is for Council to facilitate community networks/groups and for these groups to 'manage' the trapping and euthanasing of the birds. Council will be responsible for coordinating training and any other administrative matters.

Minister approves continuation of council's infrastructure strategy and environment levy - 11 Jul 2008

The Minister for Local Government has endorsed Wingecarribee Shire Council's Infrastructure Recovery Strategy program of works, as well as extending the environmental levy, by approving a 13.24% general rate increase in 2008/09 and 9.5% for the years 2009 through to 2012.

Range Road set to re-open on 1st August - 07 Jul 2008
Work began on 19th May, 2008 with Council staff and contractors constructing roundabout and upgrading intersection of Range Road and Old South Road, Mittagong. It is anticipated that Old South Road will be ready to reopen on Friday 1 August 2008, all being well.  more ..

NEW WASTE PLANT TO BOOST RECYCLING AND CUT EMISSIONS - 06 Jul 2008
 Household recycling rates will increase from 50 to 85 per cent in South-West Sydney with a new leading-edge recycling park to be launched today by leading Sydney recycling company WSN Environmental Solutions. 

The $50 million Macarthur Resource Recovery Park will receive 8 per cent of Sydney’s household waste streams and will cut greenhouse gas emissions, save water and generate renewable energy. 

This will be achieved at minimal extra cost to the community, due to resource sales and avoided landfill levies. more ..

2008 Spring Clean Up - 01 Jul 2008
Clean-Up is operated on a pre-booked and pre-paid basis. Payments and bookings must be made the week before the collection period for your area (as shown in the dates below). A flat rate $32.50 with 1% surcharge for credit cards, applies for each collection and 2 cubic metres per household is allowed each six months. New Procedure at the Resource Recovery Centre as from Today 1 July 2008 - 01 Jul 2008
For safety and quality purposes, tighter controls for load entry and inspections now apply. 

As part of the Resource Recovery Centre’s (RRC) quality assurance program for its products and aligned safety issues, tighter controls are to be introduced from 1 July 2008 for the acceptance, handling, processing and storage of materials received and products available for sale at the RRC.  more ..

Computer Classes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People - 30 Jun 2008
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Computer Classes. Never ever turned a computer on?  Friendly volunteers will get you started at the YMCA building in Bendooley Place, Bowral on Fridays  from 1.00pm to 2.30pm. The class is free and transport is available. Relaxed classes , learn to surf the net, look up family history, check out job information, have a cuppa and a yarn.

The project is a partnership between Wingecarribee Shire Council and the YWCA, with volunteer tutors from the Southern Highlands Computer Users Group. Aboriginal employment Information is supplied each week by Indigenous Service Officer, Athol Lester from Centrelink. more ..

Management Committee - Re-Appointment - 26 Jun 2008
In accordance with Council policy, all Management Committees appointed under the Local Government Act 1993 are subject to re-appointment for a further two years. Nominations for appointment to the following Committees will be invited during the Committee's Annual General Meeting, the dates  of which are as follows.

Council Rates for 2008/09 - 30 May 2008

The Minister for Local Government is currently considering Wingecarribee Shire Council's Infrastructure Recovery Strategy program of works, in which it is seeking approval to increase rates by 9.5% (including rate pegging) for the next four years to provide funds to partially meet a $102 million shortfall in the investment we need to make in public infrastructure.  At the same time, the Minister is also looking at Council's request for an extension of the successful Wingecarribee Our Future Environment Levy program, which is seeking to collect the same amount of revenue in the next financial year, plus the 3.2% rate pegging increase.
