   FAQs

Q.    I have just built a new house, how do I get my bins?
A.    A waste service cannot be started at a new dwelling until the final inspection has been completed by Council's building inspectors. This is usually booked by your certifier after the completion of the final occupation certificate. Firstly check that this has been done by calling the Environment and Planning Department on 0248 680888.  Please note that the bins are not delivered automatically. A letter will be sent to the owner after Resource Recovery has been advised to start the waste service by Environment and Planning. This letter is to advise that the waste charges will commence and requesting that the owner make contact to arrange the delivery of the bins.
Note: It is possible to start a waste service if an interim occupation certificate has been completed and is signed off by the Council's building inspectors.

A.    Refer to the attachments for Waste and Recycling for possible reasons that the bin has not been collected. If it appears the bin has been missed, this needs to be reported within 24 hours (ie the following day, or Monday if collection day is Friday)

Q.    How much is the waste management component of my rates?
A.    In 2008/9 the waste management charge remains unchanged at $220 per year for a fortnightly service, $268 per year for a standard weekly service and $402 per year for a Multiwaste service.

Q.    Do I take the bins with me when I move?
A.    No, if you move DO NOT TAKE THE BIN(S) with you. The bins are allocated by serial number to each property (not the owner) and rated accordingly.

Q.    I'm renting and there are no bins at the property!  How do I obtain them?
A.    If you are renting and there are no bins at your new address, you should contact your Real Estate Agent, they will arrange delivery for you.

Q.    My rates notice has domestic waste charges on it, why do I have to use this service?
A.    Providing the property is within Council's waste collection area, Domestic Waste Services are a mandatory requirement placed upon Council through State Government Legislation.
