This web site is a joint venture of 5 educational institutes from Victoria and Western Australia. They provide educational tools, professional development kits for teachers on sustainability and a comprehensive set of web links.

The teaching sustainability website has been designed specifically for Australian teachers. It allows easy access to find and share educational resources for a range of class levels.Educational tools and resources provided by this website cover a wide range of sustainability issues from climate change and energy consumption to poverty and fair trade. In most cases you can download the files you will need directly from the website.

This Federal Government Site is a comprehensive easy to use interface that acts as a directory for other informative government sites, such as www.yourhome.gov.au and www.energyrating.gov.au, linked through the specific topics of energy, waste, water and transport use.  In addition to information on government programs and financial support this web page provides practical step-by-step guidance on choice and installation of green technologies.

This is Australia's Architecture, Construction and Design Directory. The search for Australian made and sustainable products is provided by this database.

The Sustainability Matters website provides information on international and Australian initiatives for sustainable technologies over a wide range of industries. This site also provides informative articles and a topic guide on Energy, Waste, Water, Wastewater and Sustainability.

This site provides a catalogue of actions of simply ideas for you to ponder and pick as you craft your own sustainable life.

This site is a wealth of knowledge on permaculture principles developed for the Southern Highlands, including a monthly sowing calendar. The site provides specific information on food crops and soil conditioning methods for the home gardener and for those that have larger scale ambitions of food production.

The Sustainable Gardening Australia web page provides innovative ideas to promote the benefits of sustainable horticulture within Australia. This site raises the environmental awareness of sustainable gardening by providing advice relevant to different levels of the horticultural industry as well as the home gardener.   

4 – State & Federal Government Environmental Initiatives

This is the Federal Governments Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage & the Arts website. It provides information on Environmental Protection, Conservation of Biodiversity, Air quality, Land contamination, Environmental Research, Water Resources, Green loans, Renewable Energy Programs, Energy Efficiency, Greenhouse Gas abatement programs and Community and Household Climate Actions.  The NSW State Government Department of Environment, Climate Change & Water (DECCW) can be accessed at www.environment.nsw.gov.au. This site provides similar programs and home initiatives as the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage & the Arts website.   

5 - Climate Change

The Federal Governments Climate Change web site contains information about government initiatives to reduce carbon pollution as well as information for householders and industry to contribute to reducing carbon pollution.The site also provides direct answers to frequently asked questions on climate change as well as scientific review papers. The latest document is Climate Change 2009, Faster Change & More Serious Risks by Will Steffen. This document reviews the science of climate change, highlighting critical issues with references gained from the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

“Professor Ross Garnaut was commissioned by all of the governments of Australia’s Federation to examine the impacts of climate change on Australia and to recommend policy frameworks to improve the prospects of sustainable prosperity. The Garnaut Climate Change Review examines the impacts of climate change on the Australian economy and the costs of adaptation and mitigation. It analyses the elements of an appropriate international policy response, and the challenges that face Australia in playing its proportionate part in that response.The Garnaut Climate Change Review is highly relevant to the global problem that is climate change. It considers what policies the international community should adopt in responding to climate change, and urges humanity to act now, and in concert, to develop the required policy response in time.”

The Australian Conservation Foundation has some great information on climate change, and even provides a free climate change action kit. The foundation also provides information on environmental issues, renewable energy law, sustainable food and transport and the science and social issues of climate change.
