The Power of Vinegar

Last modified: September 11, 2009 - 12:48 AM

Deodoriser, Degreaser, De-mister, Disinfectant & Dissolves Mineral Deposits

The ancient remedy of vinegar has been used for centuries for a range of purposes from health and hygiene to the cleaning of smelly clogged drains and clothing stains. The use of this cheap, biodegradable, non-toxic, mild organic acid is an alternative to chemical concoctions and provides safe solutions to cleaning, whilst reducing the risk of chemical absorption through the skin and environmental pollution.

Try it and be amazed!

·   Fabric Softener / Deodoriser - put into the rinse cycle of your clothes washer, great to soak re-useable dish cloths in.

·   Removal of Tough Stains - soak in full strength vinegar before wash.

·   Collars & Cuffs - rub a paste of baking soda & vinegar on stain before washing.

·   Cleaning Windows – wash with warm water and vinegar (2 tsp to a litre of water), polish with newspaper and vinegar

·   Cleaning Plastic Shower Curtains – spray and wipe with dilution of vinegar and water, will also stop static cling of plastics.

·   Frost / Ice Free Windscreens - clean with 3 parts vinegar : 1 part water.

·   Unblock & Clean Drains - Pour 50g of baking soda down the drain and follow with150 ml of vinegar, leave to fizz and react with blockage and fats, then follow with bucket of hot water. Repeat if necessary.

·   Removing Calcium / Lime Build Up - spray 50:50 vinegar & water solution, leave to set and wash off with warm water in the bathroom.

·   Removing Stickers & Stains from Ceramics – soak in vinegar & water solution

·   Stainless Steel & Chrome Cleaner - apply full strength vinegar to a cloth & polish.

·   Dishwasher Rinse Cycle - add 45 ml white vinegar to dishwasher rinse cycle for streak free plates and glasses.

·   Anti-bacterial Aid & Deodoriser - spray full strength vinegar on benches and wipe over chopping boards. Dilute to clean & deodorise fridges.

·   Cleaning Microwaves - place a cup of water and 2 tps of vinegar in a bowl, microwave for 1 minutes and wipe over the interior.

·   Cleaning Coffee Machine - run 50:50 solution through coffee machine, then through again with clean water.

·   Floor Cleaner - add a little dish washing liquid to 1:10 parts vinegar to water.

·   Grease Cutter - excellent to clean deep fryers and machinery parts.

·   Concrete Stains - apply vinegar directly to the stain.

·   Removing Rust from Nuts, Bolts, hinges etc. - cover with cover with full strength vinegar, seal shake and leave overnight.

·   Discouraging Ants - by spraying a barrier of vinegar along window sills and doorways, it will stop ants from entering your home.

·   Keeping Cats out of Kids Sand Pits - pour vinegar around the sand pit, re-apply every two months. Also to deodorise problem areas.

·   Weed Suppressant in Path & Patios - spray with full strength white vinegar, may need repeating.

·   Prolong Fruit Longevity - wipe over with vinegar to eliminate bacteria.

White vinegar is the best for all purpose household cleaning as it has no colour and won’t stain. You can add fragrance through the use of peppermint tea bags, lemon juice and essential oils. It is all about choice. By choosing to use fewer chemicals and to look for natural alternatives to heavy cleaners you start to detox your home and reduce your environmental footprint.
