Your Environment

It is the Mission of Wingecarribee Shire Council “To make the Shire a better place in which to live”.

To do this we see the need to

  • Enhance the spirit, character and qualities of the Shire,
  • Respond to challenges and opportunities,
  • Retain the balance or rural and residential lifestyle
  • Pursue social and recreational opportunities
  • Ensure sustainability of the built and natural environments and
  • Provide appropriate and responsive planning controls.

Council has 4 key focus areas which are aligned with the Quadruple Bottom Line (QBL) or sustainability principles and are required for building a sustainable community.

These are

  1. Social – enhancing the quality of life of the Shire’s residents and providing opportunities for residents to move freely through life’s cycles without the need to relocate,
  2. Economic – strengthening the Shire’s economic base and providing diverse employment opportunities which enhance the community prosperity,
  3. Environment – ecologically balanced with the impacts from human activity being accommodated without degradation to the environment and
  4. Governance – continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation and ensuring facilities and services are matched to community needs.

The environment sub pages contain a range of information where you can find important information about the natural environment in Wingecarribee Shire or hints and tips on how to be more sustainable.

For those with an interest in the environment, teachers researching information or students looking for some great assignment resource material, Council’s State of the Environment Report features 120 pages of accessible information on our natural attributes and the human impact on our environment. Within the report are examples of action taken by Council and community groups to ensure a sustainable future for the shire. Find out about environmental issues such as land, water, air, biodiversity, waste and noise, as well as indigenous and non indigenous heritage.

Links to the sub-sections of Your Environment (like the State of the Environment Reports) are in the navigation bar to the left.
