A dividing fence is a fence which separates the lands of adjoining owners.
The cost of a dividing fence includes all related fencing work, such as preparation of the land, as well as the design, construction, replacement, repair and maintenance of the fence.
The Dividing Fences Act 1991 addresses how the cost of a dividing fence is shared between adjoining land owners. It sets out the minimum requirements although owners may agree to arrangements exceeding these requirements.
For permissible styles of dividing fences, view the relevant Development Control Plan (internal link).
If you do not know the name of your neighbour, submit an Ownership Details Enquiry Form (internal link).
