International Women's Day 2008

Last modified: May 16, 2008 - 4:46 PM

Reports and speeches from IWD 2008.

Wingecarribee Women’s Expo/Festival 2008
A day of activities was held on IWD in Bowral Memorial Hall and Bendooley Place in Bowral.  The program included guest speakers, concert performers (of all ages), Aboriginal womens’ art exhibition, tai chi and folk dancing demonstration, yoga, massage, Girl Guides demonstration, textile group demonstrations, health information, Devonshire teas, face painting, volunteering information, sausage sizzle and other food stalls.  The community organisations involved were -
  • Volunteering Wingecarribee (coordination)
  • Wingecarribee Community Health
  • Southern Highlands Birth Support Group
  • Mittagong Girl Guides
  • Yamanda Aboriginal Association and Mirri Mirri Bunderra Aboriginal Corporation
  • Southern Highlands Older Women’s Network

Approximately 750 people attended including 77 volunteers who assisted with the event.

Best day ever, fabulous, exhilarating , everyone was very enthusiastic, the diversity was great – women from everywhere and across the life span, Girl Guides very happy and want to do it again – they didn’t realize all the different things women do.
