Before and after demolition

3 September 2012

Having excavated all pools and removed rubble from the site, workers have started backfilling the hole where the deep end of the pool used to be. This serves two purposes:

  • To provide a safer site by reducing the potential for anything to fall into what was recently a 4m deep hole.
  • To bring ground levels up to that required for the building works.

24 August 2012

What a busy week on site. By mid afternoon today there was nothing but sand left of the pools. 66 truck loads of rubble were removed over 3 days to the Resource Recovery Centre this week.

20 August 2012

The main, todder and baby pools have all been demolished.

13 August 2012

Temporary fencing around the perimeter and site sheds were set up last week. Electrical and water services for construction were also connected to the site.

Holes were punched into the floor of pools as part of concrete testing. This allowed contractors to see whether it was safe to have heavy machinery working within the pools.
