Beekeeping

beekeeping

In NSW, beekeepers who own European honey bees (Apis mellifera) must register all hives with NSW DPI.

Compulsory registration helps us protect our bee populations, the important role they play in pollination and prevent the spread of unwanted pests and diseases including Varroa and tracheal mites. Registration of hives with the DPI enables them to contact beekeepers and locate hives that may require treatment or inspection to ensure biosecurity.

NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has information on beekeeping, including information about:

  • Registration
  • Biosecurity Alerts
  • Neighbours

  • Water
  • Location in yard
