Filming in Wingecarribee Shire

Council encourages film crews to use the diverse Wingecarribee landscape, seeing it as a good clean industry that is good for tourism and good for business when productions are being shot.

For people interested in filming in Wingecarribee Shire there are a few things you need to know.

On council controlled land

People who want to do a film shoot on Council controlled land within the Shire, first need a permit from us and pay a fee of $566 per day or part thereof. This permit has a range of conditions covering leaving rubbish, shooting guns, having $10 million insurance cover, knocking down trees etc. This application form and permit conditions are available from our Customer Serices staff.

For productions lasting more than one week

If commercial photographic or filming activity on private property lasts for more than one week, and involves erection of buildings or sets, the town planning provisions [clause 54A of the LEP] kick in. This clause requires development consent and outlines the conditions that must be addressed. Things like provision of services, access, parking, site restoration, protection of the environment and local amenity. People need to allow a month for approval.

Who to see

Council’s Traffic Engineer, Frank Perger handles the permits to film on Council controlled land (to ensure traffic matters are correctly managed) and naturally, our Town Planners look after development consents for the longer running productions, like Babe , for example.

What about locations?

For people enquiring about suitable locations for filming in the Shire, it is a good idea to drop into the Visitor Information Centre at Mittagong, because they know all the nooks and crannies around the Highlands and will be happy to provide useful suggestions.
